The above photo is one of my favourites that I’ve processed from the 10th July British Drift Championship event held at Donington. I’ve deliberatly gone for quite a dark and brooding process on it, trying to emulate the kind of feel that you see in many of the drift videos being made by people such as Stephen Brooks.

If the above video doesn’t have you lusting after a white NSX with a black roof and a set of the sexiest alloys available, you’re in the wrong place.

British Drift Championship at Donington

Saturday saw the fourth round of the British Drift Championship (BDC) take place at a very sunbaked and hot Donington Park. This was the first drift event I’ve attended, and I was fotunate enough to get media access for the day (big thanks to Mark from Driftworks for that.) This meant I could get on the right side of the chicken wire and join in with all the other photographers trying to get up close and personal with some loud and smoking drift cars.

The drift event itself took place not on the Donington circuit itself, which is still closed while the track is put back together, but on the area known as the Launch Pad which sits adjacent to the main circuit. The Launch Pad is approx 400ft wide and 1200ft long, and is made up of a tarmac surface surrounded on three sides by fencing and/or armco, and is open on the fourth side for access. You can view the actual location here. The benefit of running on an open surface like the Launch pad is that the organisers have free rein to lay the circuit out however they wish with relative freedom. For round 4 they choose to replicate the Teeside layout, where the drivers enter into a long right handed curve that tightens into a hairpin, where they then need to flick left to exit onto another right hander and the quick drag down to the finish line.

Below is a rough guide to the circuit layout (not to scale, or that accurate).
